Full-Colour Sublimated Microfiber Cloths

Dye sublimation is the reason microfibre cloths became a promotional staple: the ink turns to gas, bonds into the polyester and becomes part of the fibre rather than a layer on top of it, so the print cannot crack, peel or wash off. Edge-to-edge photographic coverage costs the same as a one-colour logo.

There is a constraint underneath that, and it is the one worth knowing before you choose a cloth. Sublimation bonds only to polyester. The polyamide in a microfibre blend does not take the dye, so a 70/30 cloth — which is the plusher, more absorbent one — renders the same artwork slightly softer and less saturated than an 80/20 or a high-polyester face.

That is a real trade-off rather than a defect, and it goes in front of you at quote stage. If the cloth is a giveaway carrying a brand mark, we will usually push the higher polyester content for punch. If it is going to be genuinely used to clean, we will push the polyamide up and tell you the print will read a shade softer. Either is right; being surprised by it is not.

Why does my print look softer on the plusher cloth?

Because sublimation dye bonds only to polyester, and the plusher cloth has more polyamide in it. The polyamide is what makes a 70/30 blend feel better and hold more liquid; it also stays lighter under the dye, so the same artwork reads a shade softer than it would on an 80/20 or a high-polyester face. It is a genuine trade-off between cleaning feel and print punch, and we will show you both before you choose.

Will the print wash off?

No. Sublimation is a gas-phase dye that bonds inside the polyester filament, so there is no ink film on the surface to crack, peel or abrade away. What does end a cloth’s life is fabric softener, bleach and dryer sheets — softener leaves a coating that clogs the fibre and destroys the cleaning action while leaving the print looking perfect. Wash warm with detergent only, no softener, and air dry or tumble low.
